Style Resolutions for 2015 - #ThriftStyleThursday

Welcome back to Thrift Style Thursday! We have some exciting themes planned for the weeks to come, and Zhenya of Being Zhenya is hosting this week with Style Resolutions for 2015! So, let's talk style resolutions...

1//  to wear my refashioned pieces more often [Today's outfit features this tartan scarf refashioned from a pair of pants, and I don't wear it often enough!]

2//  to wear the pieces I've thrifted that then sit in my closet [Featuring this thrifted white button-up, these thrifted gray jeans, and the most comfortable men's shoes, all being worn for the first time!]

3//  to ignore the little voice that says I can't pull something off for 'x' reason [These men's shoes are a prime example...they are masculine and I struggle to feel I'm feminine enough to pull them off]

4//  to thrift less, and shop my closet more for new refashion material or a new look [This ties in with the first 3, as well as my goal to simplify]

//A little more on #3...growing up I was always thin, and even after going through puberty was thin and very small chested. This is not news to those of you that have been following for a while, or who have eyes ;) Now, having a small bust means I was made fun of, even into my early 20's. I think people assumed that I was able to laugh it off, or that it wasn't the most incredibly rude thing you could possibly point out to a relative stranger...yeah. Anywho, when I met my husband, I think something sparked in me that started a realization that despite this perceived deficiency, I am a woman. A real woman. I don't have the curves that 'real' women supposedly have [if you want to believe what media teaches, and stupid teenage boys...and random strangers]. After childbirth, I have a little more curve, but this notion of not being feminine or womanly enough persists. I fight it, and will continue to do so. If I'd only listen more to my husband, I would have the strongest sense of self and highest self-esteem possible to the point of vanity ;). So, part of my continuing style goals and personal goals is to love my body, see the beauty in myself and others, accept it, and celebrate it! Let's all do the same, encouraging one another. Mmkay?//

  1. Great resolutions! I'm seeing a theme between all of us so far on wanting to shop our own closets - not a bad thing at all, I love thrifting, but sometimes I do it too much! I love this look by the way, speaking of not shopping, one thing I kind of still want to shop for is a basic white button up like that, I still don't have one and I feel like it's a staple piece!

    1. Good luck finding the perfect white button-up! I think my goal with thrifting for this year will be to make a very specific list of staples I am missing and stick to it...as well as the 1-in-1-out policy ;).

  2. Great resolutions - seriously, there is no excuse for us to create body negativity by heckling each other. We should encourage each other and spread positivity! With that said, I am really loving those shoes! Mens? Pfft. Some of my favorite items were men's clothes once.

  3. I love those shoes and actually don't think they are particularly masculine at all. This is a great outfit.

  4. So, apparently I am in love with your blog. I went through the entire thing this morning. lol.

I used to go thrift shopping ALL the time when I lived back home in Wisconsin. But now I live in the middle of nowhere in California due to being in the military and I MISS MY FASHION sense! So, I decided to look up some blogs on refashion and thrifting. You gave me TONS of ideas. And with my little baby on the way and me getting out of the military in a couple years, I want to start learning to be more thrifty and learn to sew to save us some money. Thanks so much for being detailed in your posts and I look forward to seeing more!! :)

    Much love,

  5. I love this look. Straight out of Pinterest! (haha, remember when one used to say 'straight out of a magazine?' My how times have changed).

Do not let anyone ever make you feel self conscious or body shame you. You are lovely! And you wear plaid so well... *envious sigh*

    1. I know, right? Pinterest has taken over. I was chuckling when you mentioned plaid, as my husband HATES plaid flannel shirts and I only wear them when he's not around ;) lol Thanks for the encouragement and keep it up on your end too!

  6. You look so adorable! Definitely feminine enough to pull off the men's shoes. Also, I'm totally stealing your plaid scarf refashion idea. I think I have just the right skirt in my refash stash to make it happen...

    1. Do it! And if you don't have a pair of suspenders to dismantle for the closure they've got plenty at the thrift stores, as I'm sure you're well aware. :) Can't wait to see your copy! Oh, and I'll be updating mine by lining it with some sweater cutoffs or something as it has gotten COLD and I need it to be much warmer ;)

  7. What a fantastic outfit! And you ALWAYS look beautiful. Listen to your husband, he sounds like a sensible sort :)

Looking forward to this as a regular feature!

  8. I love this post for so many reasons! First, I love this outfit; the pants, the blouse, the scarf AND THOSE BOOTS! So very cool and stylish and I want to copy it, like today haha! I also love all of your style resolutions - I think most of us in TST crew have similar goals - to be more wise about what we thrift and to try to get more wear out of what is already in our closets (clearly, we're all thrifty haha!). And last, but most certainly not least, I think you are absolutely beautiful and I LOVE the mix of "masculine" and "feminine" elements in this outfit! I think that, unfortunately, many women (and men) have certain insecurities because of teasing endured throughout growing up, and it sticks, no matter how irrelevant. But I so strongly believe in celebrating our whole selves and celebrating each other's beauty and diversity - call me idealistic, but a girl can dream, right? ;) Great post, thanks for sharing!! :)

  9. I LOVE those shoes - masculine or not you totally pull them off! I need to push myself more outside my style comfort zone as well, definitely something I'll be working on this year!
